A study of sultan mamdûh’s poems in his makhzan al‐asrâr

Abstract
Sultan Mamdûh d. 1263/1847 is a sufi who composed voluminous poeti‐ cal work in the field of sufi literature. The work that stands out among his vo‐ luminous oeuvre is Makhzan al‐Asrâr that contains Arabic, Persian and Tur‐ kish poems. This work deals with divine love based on the doctrine of theunity of being wahdat al‐wujûd . Some of the topics treated thus includeGod’s unity, His names and attributes, and the essence of things. In this artic‐ le, I discuss the reason why Sultan Mamdûh composed poetry and study a va‐ riety of topics such as characteristics of his poetry, themes of knowledge andlove as presented in the work, and the sufi symbols/allegories employed the‐ rein. Finally, I make an assessment of the Sultan Mamdûh’s poems of boastingfakhriyyât and his poetic competence.

Sultan Memdûh ö.1263/1847,Tasavvuf edebiyatı sahasında hacimli man zum eserler kaleme almış bir mutasavvıftır.Külliyat’ı içerisinde ön plana çıkan eseri; Arapça, Farsça ve Türkçe şiirlerden oluşan Mahzenü’l‐Esrâr’ıdır. Eserdevahdet‐ivücûdöğretisitemelindeilâhîaşkişlenmektedir.Buçerçeve‐ de;Allah’ınbirliği,Cenâb‐ıHakk’ınesmâvesıfatları,eşyanınmâhiyetielealı- nankonulardanbazılarıdır.Bumakalede;şairinşiiryazmaktakiamacı,şiirinin özellikleri, ilim ve aşk temaları, eserde kullanılan tasavvufî remizler, Sultan Memdûh’un şairliği ve fahriyeleri incelenerek bunlar üzerinde değerlendir‐ melerdebulunulacaktır.
