THE PROCESS OF UZLAT, KHALWA AND KASHF AS AN INDIVIDUAL EFFORT IN THE WORK OF ḤAKĪM AT-TIRMIDHĪ NAMED ‘RISĀLATU KAYFIYYATI'S-SULŪK ILĀ RABBI’L-ĀLAMĪN’

Abstract

The work of Ḥakīm at-Tirmidhī named 'Risālatu kayfiyyati's-sülūk' is shaped around concepts uzlat, khalwa and kashf. The process to which concepts refer is defined as sulūk. In this context, the work deals with the process of sulūk, the reasons, methods of this process and the concepts that describe the sālik in sulūk. In the work, a training process has been put forward by taking into psychological and physical factors into consideration. The scope of sālik, the intellectual infrastructure that provided the origin of the sulūk, and the psychological and physical elements that will provide the continuation of the sulūk have been dealt with in a holistic way. A process that sālik has to keep his thoughts, mood, and physical condition in check constitutes the main structure of the text. That Tirmidhī’discusses concepts in terms of individual effort is a significant point. The work of Tirmidhī is a fundamental example which includes information on the semantic framework of sulūk in the pre-orders period. The fact that the phases and contents of the kashf have been depicted in a lively manner is a remarkable feature of the work. In this article, the divine knowledge which is obtained via sulūk will be handled as part of Tirmidhī's work.

Hakîm et-Tirmizî’nin Risâletü Keyfiyyeti’s-sülûk adlı eseri uzlet, halvet vekeşf kavramları etrafında şekillenir. Kavramların işaret ettiği sürecin adı isesülûktur. Bu çerçevede eser, sülûkun işleyiş sürecini, gerekçe ve yöntemlerini,sülûkta sâlike rehberlik eden kavramları ele almaktadır. Eserde, fizikselve psikolojik faktörler göz önüne alınarak bir sülûk süreci tavsiye edilmiştir.Sâlikin niyeti, sülûka başlanmasını sağlayan düşünsel alt yapı ve devamınısağlayacak olan psikolojik ve fiziksel unsurlar bir bütünlük içerisinde elealınmıştır. Sâlikin hem düşüncelerini, hem ruh halini ve hem de fiziksel durumunukontrol altında tutması gereken bir sülûk metnin ana yapısını teşkiletmektedir. Önemli bir husus olarak Tirmizî, eserinde kavramları bireyselbir çabaya yönelik ele almaktadır. Tarikatlar öncesi dönemde sülûkun anlamsalçerçevesine dair bilgiler ihtiva etmesi açısından eser önemli bir örnekniteliğindedir. Keşfin aşamalarını ve içeriğini canlı bir biçimde tasviretmesi de eserin dikkat çekici bir özelliğidir. Bu makalede, sülûk vasıtasıylaelde edilecek keşfî bilgiler Tirmizî’nin eseri çerçevesinde ele alınacaktır.
