Junior High School and Secondary School Students' Misconceptions About the Human Nerve and Endocrine Systems Based on Their Ages

Özet

Bu çalışmada, ilköğretim ve ortaöğretim öğrencilerinin “Denetleyici ve Düzenleyici Sistemler” ünitesindeki kavram yanılgıları ve bu yanılgılardaki benzerlikler tespit edilmeye çalışılmıştır. Çalışma, Trabzon il merkezindeki üç ilköğretim okulunda (N= 75) ve üç lisede (N = 75) yürütülmüştür. Çalışmaya katılan öğrencilere açık uçlu sekiz sorudan oluşan test, ünite öncesinde ön test ve ünite sonunda son test olarak uygulanmıştır. Öğretmenler ve öğrencilerle yarı yapılandırılmış mülakatlar yapılmıştır. Bulgular için yüzde ve frekans hesapları yapılmıştır. Çalışma sonuçları, iki gruptaki öğrencilerin sinir ve endokrin sistemlerde yanılgıları olduğunu ortaya koymuştur. Çalışma bulguları doğrultusunda öğretmenlere önerilerde bulunulmuştur.

Abstract

In this study, junior high school and secondary school students’ misconceptions about the human “Nerve and Endocrine Systems” were investigated. Additionally, it was also investigated that if there were any similarities between them.The study was carried out in three junior high schools (N= 75) and three secondary schools (N = 75) in Trabzon. A test consisted of eight open-ended questions was implemented to the sample before and after the teaching. Semi structured interviews were conducted with the teachers and the students. Frequencies and percentages were calculated from the data. The results of the study showed that the students in each group held some misconceptions about the related subjects. Based on the findings, suggestions were made for the teachers.
