Abstract
With the globalization of the world immigration has also accelerated. Parallel to this development a series of measures are being taken to help the people, who have migrated, to adjust to their new society. In order to prevent assimilation, immigrants are taught the language, culture, history, geography, etc., of their native country. Usually the teachers of these subjects are selected from the countries where the immigrants come from. It is also observed that the countries hosting the immigrants consider it important to train teachers to educate the immigrants and that they train teachers for this purpose though at elementary level. Turkey is one of the countries which has sent workers abroad. The conclusion reached in this study was that the Turkish teachers could only be effective with the experience they gain from formal education and from multi-cultural and multi-lingual environment.
