The attitudes of university students towards the Turkish Language lessons (sample of Agri Ibrahim Cecen University)

Abstract

In Turkey, with the compulsory lessons of Turkish Language seen on the both two terms of education in the programmes of both associate and bachelor levels, developing the written and oral skills, acquiring a culture related to language, gaining a national identity and personality considering the language, conscious of language, and love of mother tongue are aimed. But, it is sometimes thougt that these aims are not realized, and one of its reason is the attitude of students toward Turkish Language Lessons. Accordingly, in this study, the attitudes of university students toward Turkish Language Lessons are tried to be defined. With this aim, the Turkish Language Lesson Attitude Scale was developed by the researcher, this developed scale is applied to 331 students continuing their studies in the different departments of Agri Ibrahim Cecen University. At the end of the research, it was defined that students have positive attitude toward Turkish Language. Moreover, in this study, it was identified that the students of Faculty of Education have more negative attitudes towards Turkish Language than both the students of Faculty of Science and Letters and Vacational School; and also, male students have more negative attitudes than the female students.

Özet

Türkiyede tüm ön lisans ve lisans programlarında iki eğitim-öğretim döneminde okutulması zorunlu olan Türk Dili dersi ile öğrencilerin yazılı ve sözlü anlatım becerilerinin geliştirilmesi, dille ilgili bir kültür edinilmesi, dilden yola çıkılarak ulusal kimlik ve benliğin kazandırılması, dil bilinci ve ana dili sevgisi verilmesi hedeflenmektedir. Buna rağmen yüksek öğretimde Türk Dili dersi ile ilgili amaçların gerçekleştirilemediği ve bu durumun bir sebebinin de öğrencilerin bu derse karşı geliştirdiği tutumlar olduğu, zaman zaman düşünülmektedir. Bu doğrultuda araştırmada üniversite öğrencilerinin Türk Dili dersine ilişkin tutumları belirlenmeye çalışılmıştır. Bu amaçla araştırmacı tarafından Türk Dili Dersi Tutum Ölçeği geliştirilmiş, geliştirilen bu ölçek Ağrı İbrahim Çeçen Üniversitesinin değişik bölümlerinde öğrenimlerine devam eden 331 öğrenciye uygulanmıştır. Araştırmanın sonucunda öğrencilerin Türk Dili dersi ile ilgili olumlu tutum içinde oldukları belirlenmiştir. Çalışmada, ayrıca, Eğitim Fakültesi öğrencilerinin hem Fen Edebiyat Fakültesi hem de Meslek Yüksek Okulu öğrencilerine göre, erkek öğrencilerin ise kız öğrencilere göre Türk Dili dersine karşı daha olumsuz tutum içinde oldukları tespit edilmiştir.
