AN EXAMINATION OF THE RELATION BETWEEN SOCIAL SKILLS OF PRESCHOOL CHILDRENS AND MOTHER S CHILD REARING ATTITUDES*

Abstract

Abstract In this research, it is aimed to examine childrearing attitudes of the mot- hers who have preschoolers, and the relationship between social skills levels of children and parental attitudes. The working group of the research is composed of 135 children who attending pre-school institutions and the mothers of these children. Data collection as means Ömeroğlu et al (2013) developed by the Pre- School Social Skills Rating Scale (OSBED) teachers and parents forms was used in order to evaluate of children s social skills, Öner and Torun (1990) developed by the Family Attitude Scale was used in order to evaluate mothers parenting styles. As a result of the reseach, a difference has been found between teachers and mothers views on social skills levels of the children, and it has been found that mothers attitudes have been influenced by education level and job status. It was conlcluded that there is positive impact of mothers democratic attitudes on children s social skills.
