THE REASONS FOR MIGRANT CHILDREN TO BECOME LOST GENERATION ACCORDING TO PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHERS

Abstract
In this study, the reasons behind the disappearance of immigrant children according to the views of primary school teachers were examined. In this direction, the study was carried out with phenomenology, one of the qualitative research designs. The study group of the research consists of 13 primary school teachers who work in the district of Esenyurt in Istanbul and are selected by criterion sampling method. The data were collected through a semi-structured interview form prepared by the researchers and analyzed by content analysis. According to the findings; Primary school teachers listed the reasons behind the loss of immigrant children as language problems, socio-cultural reasons, economic reasons, abuse and delinquency, psychological reasons and educational reasons. Language problems stated by teachers; difficulty in communicating, academic failure and difficulty in making friends, sociocultural reasons; economic reasons originating from the local society (prejudice, marginalization, exclusion, labeling) and immigrants (not being able to integrate with the local people, not adopting the local culture, the desire to keep their own culture alive); poverty, unemployment and wage inequality, exploitation and delinquency; vulnerability, physical and sexual abuse and broken families, psychological reasons; Social and psychological trauma, stress, depression and mental health, belonging and identity problems, educational reasons are conceptualized as differences in education systems, insufficient facilities in schools, adjustment problems and non-schooling, access to education problems and the effect of the pandemic, inadequate professional development. Considering the findings of the study, it can be said that there are duties and responsibilities of the stakeholders in the context of adaptation of immigrant children to society and education.

Bu araştırmada, sınıf öğretmenlerinin görüşlerine göre göçmen çocukların kayıp nesil olmalarının altında yatan nedenler incelenmiştir. Bu doğrultuda çalışma, nitel araştırma desenlerinden fenomenoloji ile yürütülmüştür. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu, İstanbul ili Esenyurt ilçesinde görev yapan ve ölçüt örnekleme yöntemi ile seçilen 13 sınıf öğretmeni oluşturmaktadır. Veriler araştırmacılar tarafından hazırlanan yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu aracılığıyla toplanmış ve içerik analizi ile çözümlenmiştir. Bulgulara göre sınıf öğretmenleri göçmen çocukların kayıp nesil olmalarının altında yatan nedenleri dil sorunları, sosyokültürel nedenler, ekonomik nedenler, istismar ve suça itilme, psikolojik nedenler ve eğitim olanakları ile yapısından kaynaklı nedenler olarak sıralamışlardır. Öğretmenlerin belirttiği dil sorunları; iletişime geçmede zorluk, akademik başarısızlık ve arkadaşlık kurmada güçlük, sosyokültürel nedenler, yerel toplumdan kaynaklı (ön yargı, ötekileştirilme, dışlama, etiketleme) ve göçmenlerden kaynaklı (yerel halkla bütünleşememe, yerel kültürü benimseyememe, kendi kültürlerini yaşatma isteği), ekonomik nedenler; yoksulluk, işsizlik ve ücret eşitsizliği, istismar ve suça itilme; savunmasız olmaları, fiziksel ve cinsel istismar ve parçalanmış aileler, psikolojik nedenler; sosyal ve psikolojik travma, stres, depresyon ve ruh sağlığı, aitlik ve kimlik sorunu, eğitim olanakları ve yapısından kaynaklı nedenler ise eğitim sistemlerinin farklılığı, okulların yeterli olanaklara sahip olmaması, uyum sorunları ve okullaşamama, eğitime erişim sorunları ve pandemi etkisi, yetersiz mesleki gelişim olarak kavramsallaştırılmıştır. Çalışmanın bulguları dikkate alındığında göçmen çocukların topluma ve eğitime uyumu bağlamında paydaşlara düşen görev ve sorumluluklar olduğu söylenebilir.
