ATTITUDES OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHERS TOWARD IMMIGRANTS

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to compare the negative attitudes of female and male physical educatioın teachers towards immigrants and to examine whether there is a relationship between teachers’ attitude scores and their years of teaching experience. A total of 135 physical education teachers, 47 women and 88 men, participated in the study. To obtain research data, A Demographic Information Form, which was developed by researchers, and the Negative Attitude Toward Immigrants was used. The data collection instruments were prepared in a digital form and delivered to the teachers through various digital communication applications. Mann Whitney-U and Spearman’s Correlation analysis tests were used in the analysis of the data. The findings showed that there was no significant difference between female and male physical education teachers’ negative attitudes towards immigrants, and teachers’ attitude scores were above the average. The results also indicated that there is no significant relationship between the attitude scores of female and male physical education teachers towards immigrants and their years of teaching experiences. The results of the research revealed that there is a negative attitude in physical education teachers towards immigrants and that the gender variable does not make a difference in the attitude, and attitude is not related to the teachers’ years of teaching experience.

Özet

Bu araştırmanın amacı kadın ve erkek beden eğitimi öğretmenlerinin göçmenlere yönelik olumsuz tutumlarını karşılaştırmak ve öğretmenlerin tutum puanları ile öğretmenlik deneyimleri arasında bir ilişki olup olmadığını incelemektir. Araştırmaya 47 kadın 88 erkek olmak üzere toplam 135 beden eğitimi öğretmeni katılmıştır. Araştırmada veri toplamak amacı ile araştırmacılar tarafından geliştirilen Kişisel Bilgi Formu ve Göçmenlere Yönelik Olumsuz Tutum Ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Veri toplama araçları dijital formda hazırlanmış ve çeşitli dijital iletişim uygulamaları aracılığı ile öğretmenlere ulaştırılmıştır. Verilerin analizinde Mann Whitney-U ve Spearman’s Korelasyon analizi testi kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen bulgular kadın ve erkek beden eğitimi öğretmenlerinin göçmenlere yönelik olumsuz tutum puanları arasında anlamlı bir fark olmadığını ve öğretmenlerin tutum puanlarının ortalamanın üzerinde olduğunu göstermiştir. Kadın ve erkek beden eğitimi öğretmenlerinin göçmenlere yönelik tutum puanları ile öğretmenlerin öğretmenlik deneyimleri arasında anlamlı bir ilişki olmadığı da elde edilen bulgular arasındadır. Araştırma sonuçları beden eğitimi öğretmenlerinde göçmenlere yönelik olumsuz tutumun varlığını ve bu tutumda cinsiyet değişkeninin fark yaratmadığını ve bu tutumun öğretmenlik deneyimi ile ilişkili olmadığını ortaya koymuştur.
