Attitude Scale Towards Coding for Secondary School Students: A Validity and Reliability Study

Abstract

In this study, it was aimed to develop an attitude scale in order to determine the attitudes of middle school students towards coding. In this direction, firstly interviews were held with 10 students and two specialist teachers and items were created. Four teachers and two lecturers and one linguist were evaluated for the validity of the content and expert opinion. At last, the scale was applied to 292 students in 6th and 7th grade in two different secondary schools that received coding education in Malatya. In order to ensure the validity of the scale structure, exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis was performed first. As the result of the exploratory factor analysis, a one factor scale consisting of 10 items was obtained. All 10 items in the scale together explain 55.352% of the variance. In confirmatory factor analysis, compliance indices were examined and found to be adequate. As a result, the internal consistency reliability coefficient of the developed coding scale was found to be .90 for the entire Cronbach Alpha scale. Therefore, the validity and reliability tests of the scale developed in this study have been made successfully and are ready to be used for measuring the attitudes of the students who have received coding education.

Özet

Bu çalışmada ortaokul öğrencilerinin kodlamaya yönelik tutumlarının belirlenmesi amacıyla bir tutumölçeği geliştirilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bu doğrultuda öncelikle ilgili alan yazın incelenmiş, 10 öğrenci ve alanuzmanı iki öğretmen ile görüşmeler yapılmış ve maddeler oluşturulmuştur. Oluşturulan maddelerinkapsam geçerliliği ve uzman görüşü için dört öğretmen ve iki öğretim üyesi ile bir dil uzmanındandeğerlendirme alınmıştır. 20 maddeden oluşan ölçeğin son haliyle Malatya il merkezinde kodlama eğitimiveren iki farklı ortaokulunda 6. ve 7. sınıflarda öğrenim gören 292 öğrenci üzerinde uygulanmıştır. Eldeedilen veriler üzerinden ölçeğin yapı geçerliğini sağlamak amacıyla açımlayıcı faktör analizi ve doğrulayıcıfaktör analizi yapılmıştır. Açımlayıcı faktör analizi sonucunda 10 maddeden oluşan tek faktörlü ölçek eldeedilmiştir. Ölçekte yer alan 10 maddenin tamamı birlikte varyansın %55.352’ini açıklamaktadır.Doğrulayıcı faktör analizinde ise uyum indisleri incelenmiş ve yeterli düzeyde olduğu görülmüştür. Sonuçolarak geliştirilen kodlama ölçeğinin iç tutarlılık güvenirlik katsayısı olan Cronbach Alfa değeri, ölçeğintamamı için .90 olarak bulunmuştur.
