Improvement of skills throgh literature in teaching German

Abstract
In the present study, which skills the literary texts used in teaching German as a foreign language improve are scrutinized. Therefore, in connection with competence models and models of literary and didactic communication about texts 'data-based bottom-up method' and the 'experience- based top-down method' of the literary learning are introduced. By means of contact with literature in German lessons important skills can be built up. As a result it can be said that different teaching and learning aims can be formulated on linguistic, communicative, literary, emotional, social, psychological, cultural and intercultural levels. In the foreign-language literature lessons teachers can therefore connect linguistic training, text work, support of creativity, personality education and intercultural communication training with each other. Different forms of the text work promote the reading skill and the listening skill as well as the verbal and written skills. Besides, utilizing their real life experiences, they can reinforce their key skills.
