Expectations of students At the Education Faculty, Firat University regarding some academic services

Abstract

This study aims to identify expectations of the students at Education Faculty, Firat University regarding some academic services. The population of the study that was conducted using descriptive survey model comprises of total 1712 students studying in the first and fourth grades of different departments at the education faculty in the 2011-2012 educational year. The sample of the research includes 811 students who were selected from these departments using simple random sampling method. “The questionnaire for the expectations of the students regarding some academic services” that was developed by the researcher was used in collecting data. Arithmetic mean, standard deviation, t test and One-Way Analysis of Variance and Kruskal Wallis-H test were performed using the data obtained. According to the research findings, more than of the students studying at Firat University, Education Faculty is general high school graduates. The students expressed that their expectations regarding “Communications with students- career development” and “Academic services” are met by instructors at the level of "sometimes.” The expectations of the students studying at the art teaching department regarding academic services are high in comparison with other departments whereas the expectations of students from Turkish Department are low.

Özet

Bu çalışmanın amacı, Fırat Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesi’nde öğrenim gören öğrencilerin bazı akademik hizmetlere ilişkin beklentilerini belirlemektir. Betimsel tarama modeli kullanılarak yapılan çalışmanın evrenini 2011-2012 eğitim-öğretim yılında, eğitim fakültesinin değişik bölümlerinin birinci ve dördüncü sınıflarında öğrenim gören toplam 1712 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmanın örneklemini ise bu bölümlerden basit tesadüfî örnekleme yöntemiyle belirlenen 811 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Verilerin toplanmasında araştırmacı tarafından geliştirilen “öğrencilerin bazı akademik hizmetlere ilişkin beklentileri” anketi kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen verilerle, aritmetik ortalama, standart sapma, t testi ve tek yönlü varyans analizi ile Kruskal Wallis-H testi yapılmıştır. Araştırma bulgularına göre, Fırat Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesini tercih eden öğrencilerin yarıdan fazlası genel lise mezunudur. Öğrenciler, “Öğrencilerle iletişim-mesleki gelişim” ve “Akademik hizmetler” boyutlarındaki beklentilerinin öğretim elemanları tarafından “bazen” düzeyinde karşılandığını ifade etmişlerdir. Resim İş öğretmenliğinde okuyan öğrencilerin öğretim elemanlarının akademik hizmetlere ilişkin memnuniyetleri diğer bölümlere göre yüksek iken, Türkçe bölümü öğrencilerinin memnuniyeti düşüktür.
