Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the short and long-term effects of teacher guide material onthe academic achievement of the students, which was prepared to teach the 5th grade human andenvironment unit entirely in out-of-school environments. The study was implemented with anexperiment and two control groups. In the study in which sequential design was used within the scope of the mixed research approach, the pre-test-post-test equivalent control group model, which is among the quasi-experimental designs, was used to examine the effect of the applicationon the academic success of the students in the study group. After an achievement test was appliedto all groups as a pre, post, and follow-up test, student worksheets, and student and parentinterviews were used as the main qualitative data sources to explain the reasons for the differencein the experimental group. As a result of this research, the academic success of the experimentalgroup students increased in a short time and their permanence was achieved in a long time. In thisoutcome, students' perceptions that out-of-school learning environments are exciting andinteresting in terms of establishing a direct relationship with life and gaining the first-handexperience have been effective.
