Özel Yetenekli Öğrencilerin Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin’in Kimya Prototiplerini Argümesi

Abstract

In this research, it was aimed to enhance gifted students’ critical thinking through modeling and arguing Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin’s chemistry prototypes, used in Islam-science history. The research was conducted on 17, ten years-old gifted students educating at a school for gifted called science and art center in Ankara province in 2018-2019 academic year on the basis of case study as one of the qualitative designs with two of their own researcher-teachers. Firstly, the gifted students modeled five of the Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin’s chemistry prototypes by clay, then they argued their models in big group discussions, at the end the students constructed their arguments about the prototypes individually. Data collecting tools were the worksheets making students construct their arguments about the prototypes and the semi-structured worksheets making students evaluate the whole process’ efficiency. The content validity of the data collecting tools was checked by three educators. The reliability of the tools was ensured by the coding-categorizing coherency among the educators. Content analysis was utilized. At the end of the research it was found that the gifted students’ critical thinking was improved through modeling and arguing his chemistry prototypes. Also student evaluation underlined amusing learning and learning historical prototypes. In this research by making students study his chemistry prototypes, not only an investigation on the basis of his works was made but also it was aimed to make the readers familiarize to his works. So for further studies different researches based on his works for improving students’ critical thinking could be suggested.

Özet

Bu araştırmada özel yetenekli öğrencilerin eleştirel düşünmelerini geliştirmede İslam bilim dünyasında kullanılan Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin’in hazırladığı kimya prototiplerini kilden modelleyip argüme etmeleri çalışılmıştır. Araştırma 2018-2019 öğretim yılında Ankara’da özel yetenekli bireylerle öğretim yapan bir bilim ve sanat merkezinde on yaş grubu 17 özel yetenekli öğrenciyle kendi araştırmacı rehber öğretmenlerinden ikisiyle nitel araştırma desenlerinden durum çalışması temelinde yürütülmüştür. Özel yetenekli öğrenciler önce Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin’in kimya prototiplerinden beş tanesini kilden modellemişler, daha sonra modellemelerini büyük grup tartışmalarıyla tartışmışlar, en sonunda da prototiplere dair bireysel olarak argümanlarını yapılandırmışlardır. Veri toplama aracı olarak öğrencilerin argümanlarını yapılandırdıkları çalışma yaprakları, öğrenci gözünden sürecin etkililiğini değerlendirildiği yarı yapılandırılmış çalışma yapraklarıdır. Veriler içerik analiziyle çözümlenmiştir. Araştırma sonucu özel yetenekli öğrencilerin Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin’in kimya prototiplerini kilden modelleyip argüme etmelerinin, argüman yapılandırma başarısındaki artışla onların eleştirel düşünmelerini geliştirdiği şeklindedir. Ayrıca öğrenci gözünden sürecin değerlendirilmesi de eğlenerek öğrenme ve tarihi aygıtların öğrenilmesine vurgu yapmaktadır. Bu araştırmada Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin’in kimya prototiplerinin çalışılmasıyla öğrenciler hem ünlü bilim insanın eserlerinden bir çalışmaya yönlendirilmiş hem de İslam bilim insanlarının eserleri okuyanlara tanıtılmaya çalışılmıştır. İleriki araştırmalarda ünlü bilim insanının eserleri temelinde ve öğrencilerin eleştirel düşünmelerinin geliştirilmesi de göz önüne alınarak farklı çalışmalar önerilebilir.
