A Meta-Study for Research on Synthesis Concept Cartoons in Turkey

Türkiye’de Kavram Karikatürleriyle İlgili Yapılan Araştırmalara Yönelik Bir Meta-Sentez Çalışması

Abstract

The present study aimed to analyze the studies carried out in Turkey on concept cartoons by employing the meta-synthesis method and identifying the tendencies in the related literature. 96 studies focusing on concept cartoons and conducted between the years 2005 and 2019 were addressed within the scope of this study. Of these, 39 were scientific articles, 52 were master’s thesis and 5 were PhD dissertations. The data in the study were obtained by means of the data bases of the Google Academic search engine, the Higher Education Academic search engine, the DergiPark website and the National Thesis Center of the Higher Education Council. Content analyses were conducted to analyze the studies within the scope of the present study. Accordingly, the studies were examined in terms of their year of publication, area of focus, purpose, research method, sampling group and size, data collection instruments, duration of implementation, and research results. The data were interpreted with the aid of tables and graphs. The findings revealed that the studies examined were more frequently carried out in recent years, mostly on topics in the field of sciences, with the purpose of investigating the impact of concept cartoons on various variables (achievement, attitude, interest, motivation etc.) regarding mostly middle school students by using quantitative methods. As for the data collection instrument, observed tests and inventories were the most frequently utilized instruments in these studies, which generally lasted between 4 or 5 weeks and 11-20 lesson hours. The results of the studies examined indicate that concept cartoon generally has a positive impact on the related variables and that students report positive feedback on concept caricatures at the end of the education year. This shows that concept cartoon can be used as an effective teaching technique. Based on the findings, various recommendations have been made to both educationalists and researchers.

Bu çalışma Türkiye’de kavram karikatürleri hakkında yapılançalışmaların meta-sentez yöntemi doğrultusunda analiz edilmesive alan yazındaki eğilimin belirlenmesi amacıyla yürütülmüştür.Çalışmada, 2005-2019 yılları arasında kavram karikatürlerini konualan 39’u bilimsel makale, 52’si yüksek lisans tezi ve 5’i ise doktoratezi olmak üzere toplam 96 çalışma kapsama alınmıştır. Çalışmadaverilere, Google Akademik arama motoru, YükseköğretimAkademik arama motoru, DergiPark ve YÖK Ulusal Tez Merkeziveri tabanları yardımıyla ulaşılmıştır. Kapsama alınan çalışmalaraiçerik analizi yapılmıştır. Bu doğrultuda çalışmalar, yayın yılı, konualanı, amacı, araştırma yöntemi, örneklem grubu ve sayıları, veritoplama araçları, uygulama süreleri ve araştırma sonuçlarıbağlamında incelenmiştir. Veriler tablo ve grafikler yardımıylayorumlanmıştır. Araştırmada incelenen çalışmaların sıklıkla sonyıllarda, daha çok fen bilimleri konu alanında, kavramkarikatürlerinin farklı değişkenlere (başarı, tutum, ilgi, motivasyonvb.) olan etkisini inceleme amacıyla nicel yöntemlerle ve daha çokortaokul öğrencileriyle yapıldığı belirlenmiştir. Ayrıca veri toplamaaracı olarak sıklıkla test ve ölçeğin kullanıldığı çalışmalar,genellikle 4-5 hafta ve 11-20 ders saati süresince uygulanmıştır.İncelenen çalışmalara ait sonuçlar, sıklıkla, kavram karikatürüuygulamasının ilgili değişkenler üzerinde pozitif etkidebulunduğunu ve öğretim süreci sonucunda öğrencilerin kavramkarikatürleri hakkında olumlu görüş bildirdiklerinigöstermektedir. Bu durum kavram karikatürlerinin etkili biröğretim tekniği olarak kullanılabileceğini göstermektedir. Sonuçlardoğrultusunda eğitimcilere ve araştırmacılara çeşitli önerilerdebulunulmuştur.
