Abstract

This study aimed on the reason for the priority order of operations in arithmetic operations. In arithmetic operations, the reasons for the order of process priority are based on addition and multiplication operations in natural numbers. The reason for the sequencing in process order is; The force-taking process is a function of the multiplication, and the multiplication is a function of the addition. For this, Peano axioms and natural numbers are created and the operations are defined. It is also emphasized that this situation is related to procedural and conceptual knowledge and that the concept-based education model in mathematics education should not be overlooked. It is also emphasized that in the mathematics curriculum, this situation is missed from the essence and that instead of spending time on the essence of mathematics, it is time to memorize definitions and a series of unnecessary rules. Finally, there have been some recommendations to teachers who are practitioners of these teaching activities
