Reading habits of university students: The model of Celal Bayar University

Abstract
The purpose of the present study is to determine the level of reading habits of students attending the Faculty of Education and Faculty of Science and Letters at Celal Bayar University in Manisa and to discuss the obtained results according to their demographic features. The sampling of the study consists of 447 students from these two faculties. They completed an 18 items questionnaire. The data was analyzed using an arithmetic mean, Chi-square and percentages. The research findings revealed that the students from both faculties had positive attitudes towards reading and were widely involved in reading activities.
Özet
Bu çalışmanın amacı, Celal Bayar Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesi ve Fen- Edebiyat Fakültesi'ne devam eden öğrencilerin okuma alışkanlıkları düzeyini ve okuma alışkanlıklarının demografik değişkenlere göre farklılık gösterip göstermediğini ortaya çıkarmaktır. Çalışmaya 447 öğrenci gönüllü olarak katılmıştır. Veri toplamak için 18 maddelik bir anket kullanılmıştır. Verilerin analizinde Ki kare, yüzdelik ve aritmetik ortalama istatistiksel analizleri kullanılmıştır. Araştırma sonuçlarına göre, her iki Fakülte öğrencilerinin genel olarak okuma alışkanlığı ile ilgili pozitif bir tutum sergiledikleri görülmektedir.
