Transformation of the city and its lifestyles: Rethinkıng late capitalism in context of emerging life spaces

Dönüşen Kent ve yaşam biçimleri: Yeni yaşam mekânları bağlamında geç kapitalizmi okumak

Abstract

The city has hosted lots of social, political, cultural, economical innovations and social movements throughout history. Dramatic socio-cultural and technologic changes, which began with modernization have sped with the acceleration that is created by globalization, added new meanings to urbanization by also transforming it. The city has been reconstructed with ultra designs each of which are thematic projects for the last century. Those designs promise different life styles and are mostly fictionalized in theatrical plays. Urban transformation and settlement projects offer individuals new frameworks and proper roles about how to live. Harvey emphasizes that cities are artificial environments which are constructed by us. In one sense, it indicates that the late-capitalist expression pass through everywhere in a fluid and comprehensive way. In the study, the appearance of the late-capitalist thinking and values as part of new living space projects will be analyzed over some examples of new biotopes projects.

Kent, tarih boyunca toplumsal, siyasal, kültürel ve ekonomik anlamda birçok yeniliğe ve sosyal hareketlere ev sahipliği yapmıştır. Modernleşmeyle başlayan ve küreselleşmenin yarattığı ivmeyle hızlanan dramatik sosyokültürel ve teknolojik değişimler, kenti de dönüştürerek ona yeni anlamlar kazandırmıştır. Son yüzyıldır kent, hepsi birer tematik proje olan ultra tasarımlarla yeniden inşa edilmektedir. Bu tasarımlar farklı farklı yaşam tarzları vaat etmekte ve kendileri de çoğu zaman teatral oyunlar içinde kurgulanmaktadır. Kentsel dönüşüm ve yerleşim projeleri, bireylere nasıl yaşanılacağına dair yeni çerçeveler ve uygun roller sunar. Harvey, kentlerin bizler tarafından inşa edilen yapay çevreler olduğunu vurgular. Bu, bir anlamda geç-kapitalist söylemin likit ve kuşatıcı bir şekilde her yere nüfuz ediyor oluşuna işaret eder. Çalışmada, geç-kapitalist düşünce ve değerlerin yeni yaşam alanı projeleri bağlamında tezahürü, çeşitli yeni yaşam mekânları proje örnekleri üzerinden analiz edilecektir.
