Abstract
Curriculum literacy is a concept that is composed of the sub-dimensions of knowledge regarding planning and implementing the curriculum. This study aimed to identify the curriculum literacy levels of teachers working at secondary schools. The study was carried out using 311 teachers that were teaching Maths, Turkish, Social Sciences and Science in Ankara. During the study, “Curriculum Literacy Scale” developed by the researcher was used. As a result of the validity and reliability studies, it was decided that the scale was a reliable and a valid data collection tool. The stratified alpha reliability coefficient of the scale was calculated to be .774. According to the results of the study, it was seen that the participants were high level curriculum literate. It was found out following examining the findings according to the variable of the subjects that the teachers taught that all teachers teaching various subjects and participating in this study were high-level curriculum literate. According to the subdimensions of curriculum literacy, the mean scores of teachers from the highest to the lowest are in the form of planning 4.53, implementing 4.42 and curriculum knowledge 4.08 respectively. When the curriculum literacy levels of secondary school teachers were examined with respect to subject, gender, seniority in profession (year) and that faculty that teachers graduated from, it was concluded that there was no statistically significant difference. When the curriculum literacy was evaluated with regards to the sub-dimensions of knowledge regarding the curriculum, its’ planning and implementation, the sub-dimenson of planning showed a significant difference in terms of the faculties that the teachers have graduated from, while the variables of gender, subject areas and seniority in profession did not show a statistically significant difference. It was concluded that the difference resulted from the teachers who graduated from the faculty of education and other faculties, and also the difference was found out to be in favor of the teachers who graduated from other schools.
