Examination of the Effect of Excursions on the Academic Achievement of Pre-Service Social Studies Teachers and Opinions of Prospective Social Studies Teachers on Composing Travel Writings

Özet

Bu araştırma, gezi yönteminin Sosyal Bilgiler öğretmen adaylarının başarılarına etkisini ve Sosyal Bilgileröğretmen adaylarının uygulamaya yönelik gezi yazısı yazmalarına ilişkin görüşlerinin incelenmesi amacıylayapılmıştır. Bu doğrultuda araştırmada, karma yöntem ve karma yöntem içerisinde yer alan açıklayıcı ardışıkdesen kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın nicel kısmında deneysel desen, nitel kısmında ise durum çalışması desenikullanılmıştır. Çalışma grubunun belirlenmesinde uygun durum örneklemesi yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Buna göreçalışma grubunda İç Anadolu’da yer alan bir devlet üniversitesinde öğrenim gören 24 Sosyal Bilgiler öğretmenadayı yer almıştır. Araştırmanın veri toplama aracını uzman görüşü alındıktan sonra son şekli verilen 15maddeden oluşan başarı testi ve üç sorudan oluşan yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu oluşturmaktadır.Araştırma, araştırmacı tarafından uygulanmış ve araştırmanın verileri toplanmıştır. Nicel verilerin analizindeSPSS 15.0, nitel verilerin analizinde ise içerik analizi kullanılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda, gezi yöntemikullanımının öğretmen adaylarının akademik başarılarına olumlu etkisi olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Sosyal Bilgileröğretmen adaylarının gezi yazısına yönelik görüşleri incelendiğinde, genel olarak öğrenme üzerinde olumluetkisi olduğu tespit edilmiştir.

Abstract

This research was carried out to examine the effect of the excursion method on the achievement of pre-service Social Studies Teachers and the opinions of pre-service Social Studies Teachers on writing application-oriented field trip essays. Accordingly, the mixed methods approach and the illustrative consecutive design within mixed methods were employed. An experimental design was used in the quantitative component of the study, and a case study design was used in the qualitative component. The opportunity sampling method was employed in the design of the study group. Twenty-four pre-service Social Studies Teachers studying at a state university in Central Anatolia took part in the study group. The data collection tool used in the research consists of an achievement test comprised of 15 articles, which was finalized after expert opinions were received, and a semistructured interview form with three questions. The research was carried out by the researcher, and the research data was gathered by the researcher. SPSS 15.0 was used to analyze quantitative data, and content analysis was used to analyze qualitative data. The research results showed that employment of the excursion method has a positive effect on the academic achievement of prospective teachers. When the opinions of pre-service Social Studies Teachers on travel writings were examined, it was found that travel writings have a positive effect on learning in general.
