Abstract

Starting with Meninski (1680), numereous Turcologists have expressed their opinions on the origin of Turkish gerundial suffix{-(y)ArAK}. Although there are more opinions relevant to the origin of the gerundial suffix, two of them came to the fore. According to the first scenario, {-(y)ArAK} was made up of combining gerundial suffix {-(y)A} and comparison formant {+rAK}. However, the second scenario claims that the suffix was formed by aoristparticiple suffix {-(U)r}/{-(A)r}+{±OK} enclitic. The second of these opinions cannot be accepted within the framework of Turkic etymological principles. This article asserts that {-(y)ArAK} emerged as result of functional renewal of (pre-)existing gerundial suffix {-(y)A).

Özet

Türkiye Türkçesinin zarf-fiil ekleri arasında yer alan {-(y)ArAK} ekinin kökeni hakkında Meninski’den (1680) baslayarak pek çok Türkolog görüs bildirmistir. Ekin kökeni hakkında daha fazla görüs bulunmasına ragmen ikisi öne çıkmıstır. Bunlardan biri, ekin {-(y)A} zarf-fiil eki ile {+rAK} kuvvetlendirme ekinin birlesmesiyle; digeri ise, genis zaman sıfat-fiil eki {- (U)r}/{-(A)r} ekiyle {±OK} enklitiginin birlesmesiyle meydana geldigini ileri sürmektedir.
