Abstract

In this study, it was aimed to examine middle school students' determination of relationships between geometric objects and collective argumentation processes. The application was carried out in the second semester of the 2019-2020 academic year with eight, secondary school eighth grade students studying in three different classes. It was conducted in the second term of the 2019-2020 academic year with eight, and eighth grade students studying in three different classes. A Geogebra supported activity was applied to the students, which included instructions to reveal the relationships between geometric concepts and to support them in forming arguments. This activity was carried out with a teaching experiment from qualitative methods online through distance education after the topic of geometric objects was covered with different activities. In the activity, a section of students' collective argument formation processes was included.During the analysis process, student activity notes and drawings recorded online were also used. The data obtained were analyzed with prospective and retrospective reviews, the perspectives of Krummheuer(1995) and Conner (2008) on the basis of Toulmin's (1958) argumentation scheme. The process was interpreted by reflecting the argumentation schemes as a result of the analysis. As a result; It was determined that the students took an active role in the argument formation process, they made an effort to make sense by forming a basis for geometric concepts, and the Geogebra supported activity contributed to the collective argumentation process. It is thought that the implementation of the collective argumentation process with different activities from the first stages of education will contribute to the teaching of geometry.
