Academics’ Opinions Regarding the Quality of Scientific Publications and Their Quality Problems

Abstract
The contribution to science by the academics of a country and the science-policy owned by the same country is accepted as the most basicindicator of the development in that country. The most important concept to be addressed in the advancement and transformation ofscience is scientific quality. The purpose of this study is to determine the views of academics regarding the reasons for the quality problems,especially in the social sciences field, and to share the solution suggestions for these problems by the academics. The phenomenologicalapproach, which is one of the qualitative research types, was adopted as the method of the study to examine the views and experiencesof the academics in a more detailed manner. Content analysis technique was used in the analysis of the data collected by the interviewmethod. The findings of the study were categorized into two main themes based on the views of the academics, as the reasons for thequalitative publication problem, and the suggestions addressed for this problem. The reasons for the problem of qualitative publication arepresented in six categories: the content of the publications, journal, academician, current structure, cultural context and political pressures

Bir ülkenin akademisyenlerinin bilime yaptığı katkı ve ülkenin sahip olduğu bilim politikası, o ülkedeki gelişmişliğin en temel göstergesiolarak kabul edilmektedir. Bilimin ilerlemesi ve dönüşümünde ele alınması gereken en önemli kavram bilimsel niteliktir. Bu araştırmanınamacı, özellikle sosyal bilimler alanda üretilen bilimsel yayınların nitelik sorunlarının nedenlerine ilişkin olarak akademisyenleringörüşlerinin belirlenmesi ve yine bu soruna ilişkin çözüm önerilerinin akademisyenler tarafından paylaşılmasıdır. Araştırmadaakademisyen görüşleri ve deneyimlerinin daha ayrıntılı ele alınmasının amaçlanmasından dolayı nitel araştırma türlerinden fenomenolojikyaklaşım benimsenmiştir. Görüşme yöntemi ile toplanan verilerin analizinde içerik analizi tekniği kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın bulgularıakademisyenlerin görüşlerinden yola çıkılarak, nitelikli yayın sorununun nedenleri ve bu soruna ilişkin geliştirilen öneriler olmak üzereiki ana temada kategorize edilmiştir. Nitelikli yayın sorununun nedenleri ise yayınların içeriği, dergi, akademisyen, mevcut yapı, kültürelbağlam ve politik baskılar olmak üzere altı kategoride sunulmuştur.
