Examination of Perception of Preservice teachers on Communication skills

Abstract

In this research, communication skills of preservice teachers in terms of variables of gender, the department studied, grade level, high school type graduated, residential unit stayed for the longest period, usage status and frequency for social networking sites were examined. The research sample consists of 315 preservice teachers. In order to assess the perception of teacher candidates towards communication skills, "Assessment Scale for Communication Skills" developed by Korkut (1996) were used. As a result of analysis performed for the reliability of the scales, total Cronbach Alfa (?) value of the scale used towards the communication skills was found as .88. To analyze data, Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal-Wallis test was used. According to total points received from Assessment Scale for Communication Skills; there was a statistically significant difference to gender, the department studied, grade level, residential unit stayed for the longest period. However, there was not a significant difference with respect to high school type graduated, usage status and frequency for social networking sites. In accordance with the results obtained from the research, it may be asserted that the perceptions of preservice teachers on communication skills are high.

Bu araştırmada öğretmen adaylarının iletişim becerileri algıları cinsiyet, öğrenim görülen bölüm, sınıf düzeyi, uzun süre yaşanılan yerleşim birimi, mezun olunan lise, sosyal paylaşım sitelerini kullanma durumu ve sıklığı değişkenleri açısından incelenmiştir. Araştırmanın örneklemini Afyon Kocatepe Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesi'nde 1. ve 2. sınıfında öğrenim gören 315 öğretmen adayı oluşturmaktadır. Öğretmen adaylarının iletişim becerilerine yönelik algılarını değerlendirmek için, Korkut (1996) tarafından geliştirilen "İletişim Becerilerini Değerlendirme Ölçeği" kullanılmıştır. Ölçeğin güvenirliğine yönelik yapılan analizler sonucunda, ölçeğin toplam Cronbach Alfa (?) değeri .88 olarak hesaplanmıştır. Verilerin analizinde Mann Whitney U ve Kruskal Wallis testi kullanılmıştır. İletişim becerilerine ilişkin öğretmen adaylarının değerlendirmelerinden elde edilen puanlara göre; cinsiyete, öğrenim görülen bölüme, sınıf düzeyine ve uzun süre yaşanılan yerleşim birimine göre istatistiksel açıdan anlamlı bir fark olduğu; mezun olunan liseye, sosyal paylaşım sitelerini kullanma durumuna ve sıklığına göre anlamlı bir farklılık olmadığı tespit edilmiştir. Araştırmadan elde edilen sonuca göre öğretmen adaylarının iletişim becerileri algılarının yüksek düzeyde olduğu görülmektedir.
