Developing an Attitude Scale for the Life Science Lesson and Students’ Attitudes

Hayat Bilgisi Dersi Tutum Ölçeğinin Geliştirilmesi ve Öğrencilerin Hayat Bilgisi Dersine Yönelik Tutumları

Abstract

This study was carried out to develop a scale to determine the attitude levels of primary school students towards life science and to determine the attitude levels of students towards life science course with the scale we developed. Data were obtained from four study groups in which descriptive research method was used. Study groups were composed of 355 (EFA), 264 (CFA), 61 (test-retest), and 290 (determining attitudes) students. SPSS 22.00 and Lisrel package software were used in analysing the data. According to the data, as for the exploratory factor analysis (EFA) it was determined that the developed scale explains 46.30% of the total variance, each factor has at least 2% eigenvalues, also each factor explains at least the 14% of total variance, each factor is represented at least with 5 items, and has 16 questions in total with three factor form. Three factors have a correlation with each other, and Cronbach’s Alpha internal consistency coefficient of the whole scale is 0.81. Test-retest results of the attitude scale show that the scale is reliable. Cronbach’s Alpha internal consistency coefficient of the whole scale is calculated as 0.81 according to the confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), and as for the CFA results 5 of them are acceptable and 6 are in excellent level. The attitudes of second and third grade primary school students towards life science were found to be high.

Bu çalışma, ilkokul öğrencilerinin hayat bilgisi dersi tutum düzeylerini tespit etmeye yönelik bir ölçek geliştirmek ve geliştirilen bu ölçekle öğrencilerin hayat bilgisi dersine yönelik tutum düzeylerini belirlemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Betimleyici araştırma yöntemi kullanılan çalışmada veriler dört çalışma grubundan elde edilmiştir. Çalışma grupları 355 (AFA), 264 (DFA), 61 (test-tekrar test) ve 290 (tutum belirleme) öğrenciden oluşmuştur. Verilerin analizlerinde SPSS 22.00 ve Lisrel paket programlarından yararlanılmıştır. Elde edilen verilere göre; açımlayıcı faktör analizi (AFA) sonunda; geliştirilen ölçeğin toplam varyansın %46.30’unu açıkladığı, her bir faktörün en az %2 özdeğere sahip olduğu, yine her bir faktörün toplam varyansın en az %14’ünü açıkladığı, her bir faktörün en az beş madde ile temsil edildiği, toplam 16 sorudan ve üç faktörlü bir yapıya sahip olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Üç faktör birbiri ile korelasyonel bir ilişkiye sahip ve ölçeğinin geneline ait Cronbach Alfa iç tutarlık katsayısı .81’dir. Tutum ölçeğinin test tekrar test sonuçları ölçeğin güvenilir olduğunu göstermektedir. Doğrulayıcı faktör analizine (DFA) göre ölçeğin geneline ait Cronbach Alfa iç tutarlık katsayısı .88 olarak hesaplanmış ve DFA ile elde edilen verilerinden 5 tanesi kabul edilebilir ve 6 tanesi mükemmel düzeydedir. İlkokul 2. ve 3. sınıf öğrencilerinin hayat bilgisi dersine yönelik tutum düzeylerinin yüksek olduğu tespit edilmiştir.
