Factors Supporting and Inhibiting Organizational Learning in Secondary Education Institution

Abstract

In this research, it was aimed to determine the factors that support or inhibit organizational learning in secondary education institutions and to develop solutions for how to improve organizational learning in these institutions. Phenomenology design was used in this qualitative study. Within the scope of the research, interviews were conducted with a total of 16 participants including four school administrators and 12 teachers in four Anatolian high schools selected with mixed purposive sampling method in Çankaya district of Ankara province. The collected data were analyzed with descriptive and content analysis techniques. In the study, the factors that support and prevent organizational learning were discussed in the main themes of “in-school, out-of-school and individual factors”. In-school factors were examined under the sub-themes “organizational-structural and school culture”, and out-of-school factors were examined under the sub-themes “top administrative units and environmental factors”.

Özet

Bu araştırmada, ortaöğretim kurumlarında örgütsel öğrenmeyi destekleyen veya engelleyen faktörleri belirlemek ve bu kurumlarda örgütsel öğrenmenin daha fazla nasıl geliştirileceğine ilişkin çözüm önerileri geliştirmek amaçlanmaktadır. Nitel olarak tasarlanan bu araştırmada, olgubilim deseni kullanılmıştır. Araştırma kapsamında Ankara ili, Çankaya ilçesinde karışık amaçlı örnekleme ile seçilen dört okulda, dört okul yöneticisi ve 12 öğretmen olmak üzere toplam 16 kişiyle görüşmeler gerçekleştirilmiştir. Toplanan veriler betimsel analiz ve içerik analizi teknikleriyle çözümlenmiştir. Araştırmada, örgütsel öğrenmeyi destekleyici ve engelleyici faktörler “okul içi, okul dışı ve bireysel faktörler” ana temalarında ele alınmıştır. Okul içi faktörler “örgütsel-yapısal ve okul kültürü”; okul dışı faktörler ise “üst yönetim birimleri ve çevresel faktörler” alt temalarında incelenmiştir.
