Classroom Teachers' Opinions On Values Education

Abstract

Values are the elements that enable the individual to gain a place in the society. The individuals living in the society should have the values accepted by the society in order to have a healthy and peaceful relationship with the society. The most important task in teaching these values falls to families and schools. When the individual comes into the world, values education that start in the family continue in schools with the children reaching the school age. With values education program, schools are trying to make children gain and internalize these values. This study was carried out in order to receive the opinions of the classroom teachers about values education. The study has a survey model and a descriptive nature. A questionnaire form was prepared and applied to 350 classroom teachers in order to collect the research data. "Arithmetic mean", "percent" and "frequency" were used to analyze the data obtained from the study. In addition, the degree to which teacher opinions are affected by variables based on demographic data was tested with independent samples t-test and anova tests. When the results of the study are analyzed, teachers participating in the study stated that they have sufficient knowledge about values education, that teachers should be exemplary individuals in terms of values education and that values education is also as important as academic achievement. Again, the teachers who participated in the study stated that the media has a significant effect on values education.

Özet

Değerler bireyin toplum içerisinde yer edinebilmesini sağlayan unsurlardır. Toplum içerisinde yaşayan bireylerin toplum ile barışık ve sağlıklı bir ilişki yürütebilmesi için topum tarafından kabul edilmiş olan değerlere sahip olması gerekmektedir. Bu değerlerin öğretiminde en önemli görevler de aile ve okullara düşmektedirler. Bireyin dünyaya gelmesi ile birlikte ailede başlayan değerler eğitimi çocukların okul yaşına gelmesi ile okullarda devam etmektedir. Okullar yürütmüş olduğu değerler eğitimi programı ile çocuklara değerleri kazandırmaya çalışmakta ve bu değerlerin içselleştirmesini sağlamaktadır. Bu araştırma değerler eğitimine ilişkin sınıf öğretmenlerinin görüşlerini almak amacıyla yapılmıştır. Araştırma tarama modelinde olup betimsel bir nitelik arz etmektedir. Araştırma verilerinin toplanması amacı ile anket formu hazırlanmış ve 350 sınıf öğretmenine uygulanmıştır. Araştırmadan elde edilen verileri çözümlemede “aritmetik ortalama”. “yüzde” ve “frekans” kullanılmıştır. Ayrıca öğretmen görüşlerinin, demografik verilere dayalı değişkenlerden etkilenme derecesi de bağımsız gruplar t testi, anova testleri ile test edilmiştir. Araştırma sonuçları incelendiğinde araştırmaya katılan öğretmenler değerler eğitimi hakkında yeterli bilgiye sahip olduklarını, öğretmenlerin değerler eğitimi konusunda örnek kişiler olması gerektiğini, akademik başarı kadar değerler eğitiminin de önemli olduğunu ifade etmişlerdir. Yine araştırmaya katılan öğretmenler medyanın değerler eğitiminde önemli bir etkiye sahip olduğunu ifade etmişlerdir.
