The relation between freedom and dependence in rousseaus philosophy of education

Abstract
In this paper, the contradiction between freedom and depend- ence which are the concept included within philosophy of education of Rousseau will be examined. Rousseau asserts that humans who are inherently good are corrupted by the social institutions and seeks for a method of bringing up a good person. However the issue which he ignores while seeking for a method is the relation between tutor and pupil. Rousseau who intends to bring up free and good person cannot save the pupil from the bonds of slavery which he asserts to be adopted in the process of socialization. This side of Rousseaus educational model will be explained in this study.
Özet
Bu makalede, Rousseaunun eğitim düşüncesinde yer alan özgürlük ve bağımlılık kavramları arasındaki çelişki irdelenmektedir. Rousseau doğası gereği iyi olan insanın toplumsal kurumlar tarafından bozulduğunu öne sürmekte ve iyi bir birey yetiştirmenin yöntemini aramaktadır. Ancak onun yöntem arayışında göz ardı ettiği konu eğitimci ve öğrenci arasındaki ilişkidir. Özgür ve iyi bir birey yetiştirmek isteyen Rousseau, öğrencisini toplumsallaşma sürecinde kazanıldığını iddia ettiği kölelik bağlarından kurtaramamaktadır. Bu çalışmada Rousseaunun eğitim modelinin bu yönü açıklanacaktır.
