Abstract
We see that the narrations contradicting each other about Umar who the second caliph of the Muslims that he had become a Muslim are narrated by our sources of Hadith and History. One kind of these narratives, Umar went out of his house angrily to kill Rasulullah, but when he learned his sister and sister’s husband were Muslims, he changed his way to their home and became a Muslim by listening and influencing by the Qur'an. In the second kind of narratives, Umar came out to drink at night but could not find any drinking and came to the Kaaba for circumambulate it. At that time he saw the Prophet had been praying, he secretly listened to him and he was influenced by the Qur'an, which the Prophet had been re-ading, and he became a Muslim. In the third kind of narratives, Umar followed Rasulullah to persecute him. After the Prophet prayed, Umar listened the verses which had been read by the Prophet and became a Muslim so that he influenced by the verses he read. The first kind of these narrations about Umar's being a Muslim has become famous and has almost narrated by the siyer books written from the past to the pre-sent day. Other narrations have lost their importance by the time, and especially they have hardly ever taken place in any works written in recent years. In order to determine how Umar become a Muslim, we have examined the narrations which of them are authentic with regard to Hadith methodology. As a result of the research we determined, that these narrations are narrated mostly in the siyer books and these narrations did not take place in Kütüb-i Sitte, but took place in more subordinate sources of hadith. Consequently we have studied every kind of narratives according to the Hadith methodology, we found the first narrative which is famous, more authentic than the ot-her narrations in terms of isnad.
Özet
Müslümanların ikinci halifesi Hz. Ömer’in Müslüman oluşuyla ilgili birbirle-riyle çelişen rivayetlerin Hadis ve Tarih (Siyer/Meğazi) kaynaklarımızda yer aldığını görmekteyiz. Bu rivayetlerin birinde Hz. Ömer, Resulullah’ı (a.s.) Peygamber’in namaz kıldığını gö-rünce, gizlice onu dinlemiş ve Hz. Peygamber’in okuduğu Kur’an’dan etkilene-rek Müslüman olmuştur. Üçüncü rivayette ise Hz. Ömer Resulullah’a eziyet etmek amacıyla onu takip etmiş ve Hz. Peygamber’in namaza durmasının ardından Hz. Peygamber’in okuduğu ayetleri dinlemiş ve okuduğu ayetlerden etkilenerek Müslüman olmuştur. Hz.
