Foundations of Jean-Jacques Rousseau's Conception of Education: Indi- vidual Emile or Citizen Emile?

Jean-Jacques Rousseau'nun Eğitim Anlayışının Temelleri: Birey Emile mi, Vatandaş Emile mi?

Abstract

The contribution of J.-J. Rousseau to political philosophy has usually been debated with reference to his political texts. Indeed, Rousseau's philosophy of education is closely linked to his political thought too. In this article, the moral and methodological principles of education in Rousseau's political thought are analyzed. The main question to be answered is whether it is possible to accept the principles regarding the education of the individual in Emile also as principles regarding the education of the citizen. In other words, it is the aim to answer the question whether principles concerning education in Emile can be transferred to Discourse on Political Economy and Considerations on the Government of Poland. It is argued that, in contrast to Rousseau's perception, all principles in Emile can be considered as coherent grounds for the education of the citizen too.

J.- J. Rousseau'nun siyaset felsefesine olan katkısı genellikle siyasi metinleri üzerinden tartışılmaktadır. Oysaki Rousseau'nun eğitim felsefesinin de siyasetle derinden bir bağı mevcuttur. Bu makalede Rousseau'nun siyaset felsefesinde eğitimle ilgili ahlaki ve metoda dayalı prensipler üstünde durulmaktadır. Cevaplanmaya çalışılan temel soru; Emile eserinden çıkarsayabileceğimiz bireyin eğitimi ile ilgili prensiplerin (doğacılık, hümanizm, deneyimlemenin önemi, ölçülülük ve özerklik), vatandaşın eğitimi ile ilgili prensipler olarak da kabul edilip edilemeyeceğidir. Başka bir deyişle, Emile'deki eğitimle ilgili prensiplerin Politik Ekonomi Üzerine Söylem ve Polonya Hükümeti ve Reform Tasarısı Üzerine Düşünceler eserlerine transfer edilip edilemeyeceği sorusunun cevaplanması hedeflenmektedir. Rousseau'nun uygulaması- nın aksine, Emile'deki tüm prensiplerin vatandaşın eğitimi için de tutarlı bir biçimde temel teşkil edebileceği iddia edilmektedir.
