Teachers' Experiences in Pre-Service Training: An Analysis on Teacher Training

Öğretmenlerin Hizmet Öncesi Eğitim Deneyimleri: Öğretmen Yetiştirme Üzerine Bir Analiz

Abstract

In this qualitative study, the data of which were collected through a semi-structured interview form, it is aimed to evaluate the pre-service training of teachers in the light of their own experiences. In this direction, the experiences of teachers in the pre-service trainings have been tried to be revealed by focusing on different dimensions. When the results of the study are examined, it is concluded that the teachers in general feel more powerful in terms of their field knowledge but lacking in terms of professional knowledge. Most of the teachers stated that they felt deficiencies in terms of their teaching professional knowledge and some of them stated that they had graduated without knowing the target parents and students. Most of the teachers stated that they had solved their shortcomings through experience sharing and in-service training. A majority of the teachers stated that the hidden curriculum or corporate culture of the institution they were educated did not prepare them fully for teaching; moreover, some of the participants had no awareness about this issue.

Özet

Nitel bir araştırma olarak tasarlanan ve yarı yapılandırılmış bir görüşme formu ile veri toplanan bu çalışmada öğretmenlerin hizmet öncesi eğitimlerinin kendi deneyimleri ışığında değerlendirilmesi hedeflenmektedir. Bu doğrultuda öğretmenlerin hizmet öncesi eğitimlerinde edindikleri deneyimler farklı boyutlarına odaklanılarak ortaya çıkarılmaya çalışılmıştır. Çalışmanın sonuçları incelendiğinde genel olarak öğretmenlerin aldıkları eğitimi alan bilgisi açısından daha güçlü ancak meslek bilgisi yönünden daha eksik gördükleri sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Mesleğe başladıklarında öğretmenlerin çoğu öğretmenlik meslek bilgisi yönünden eksiklikler hissettiğini belirtmiş, bir kısmı da hedef veli ve öğrenci kitlesini tam tanımadan mezun olduklarını belirtmiştir. Öğretmenlerin büyük çoğunluğu eksikliklerini tecrübe paylaşımları ve hizmet içi eğitimler yoluyla giderdiklerini beyan etmişlerdir. Öğretmenlerin büyük bir kısmı eğitim sürecinde eğitim aldıkları kurumun örtük programının ya da kurum kültürünün kendilerini öğretmenliğe tam hazırlamadığını belirtmiştir; bir kısmında ise bu konu ile ilgili bir farkındalık da oluşmamıştır.
