Abstract

This study aims to examine the automatic assignment of first-grade students' classes and teachers through the e-school system, based on the perspectives of school administrators and teachers who have experienced and been affected by this practice. This study examines this practice from a socio-technical perspective to explore the interaction between the technical dimension and the human factor in school decision-making processes. In this research, designed with a phenomenological design, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 11 classroom teachers and six school administrators, and content analysis was used to analyze the data. The findings indicate that this digital decision-making system offers advantages such as reducing parental pressure, preventing injustice, eliminating discrimination among teachers, and easing the workload of school administration. However, the system's lack of flexibility in the face of specific and unpredictable circumstances in implementation has led to challenging consequences for schools and teachers in terms of student distribution. The results of the research reveal that the system, while ensuring fairness and standardization in the technical dimension, ignores situational and relational variables related to people in the social dimension. These results indicate that the digitalization process in education management must be balanced and supported with the human dimension.
