Abstract

The October Revolution, which led to the overthrow of the tsarist regime and the establishment of the first socialist country in the world, is one of the turning points in world history. The Soviet Union, in which planned economy was implemented instead of capitalist production relations, was a potential enemy for capitalist-imperialist countries from the very beginning. In the same period, under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal, a war of independence was waged against the imperialist countries and their collaborators, the sultanate regime. According to Lenin, the leader of the first socialist country, although Mustafa Kemal was not a socialist, he should have been supported against imperialist countries. Before the Republic of Turkey was established, close relations were developed between the Ankara Government and the Soviet Union, and cooperation against imperialist countries had begun. England, representing the imperialist countries, was the common enemy of both countries. In this context, it is seen that foreign policy in the first years of the Turkish Republic was shaped within the Soviet Union - Turkey - England Triangle. On the other hand, the USA and NATO were influential in the economic relations of Turkey and the USSR during the Second World War and the Cold War period that started after it. Until the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Turkey, a member of NATO, maintained its economic relations with the USSR continuously, with the exception of short-term exceptional periods. Economic relations continued increasingly with the Russian Federation after the collapse of the USSR. This is also related to the strong historical foundations of economic relations
