Abstract

At the beginning of the 16th century, the Portuguese colonization of Africa, which was limited to maritime trade, led to the establishment of a new colonial and slavery system on a global scale with the rapidly rising industrialization in Europe in the 19th century. The "Berlin Congo Conference" was held between November 15, 1884- February 26, 1885, with the call of German Chancellor Otto von Bismarck, in order to gather the great powers with the entry of the Western states into the field. The colonial borders of the African continent were drawn with the negotiations made at the conference that lasted one hundred and three days. European missionaries, travelers, archaeologists, volunteer physicians, traders prepared the infrastructure of colonialism with their previous discoveries to the depths of the continent. Western states, who wanted to expand their territories and become a global power, moved the African natives, who were displaced from their homes, to the USA and Europe three months after the conference. In this study, the slave trade, colonial and genocide history of the Western colonial states in the African continent was examined.
