Abstract
Multicultural education is an educational approach which allows getting to know different cultures, eliminating stereotypical prejudices, sensitizing the students to the pluralistic aspects of life, and ensuring the cultural diversity to be welcomed positively and equally. Multicultural education is based on the modification of learning environments to ensure that students welcome other individuals from different cultures. The teachers should ensure that their students respect the values of individuals who are not from their cultures and also they should minimize the prejudices about other cultures. And also, they should create learning environments in which such cultural differences can be considered as a source of wealth for the people. The aim of this research is to analyze the films with an educational theme in terms of multicultural education. For this purpose, 5 films, which can reflect the multicultural educational environment, were selected from the films recommended by the Ministry of National Education to all teachers for the summer holiday of the 2016-2017 academic year within the scope of vocational studies by using purposeful sampling method. This study was conducted by using document review method as a qualitative research method. The research data were collected by using document review method. The data were collected by using the observation forms prepared by the researchers. In the analysis process, firstly the survey forms were deciphered and analyzed. The scenes which reflect the schools' multicultural indicators were identified in the films and these indicators were supported by direct quotes from the texts of the film. Çokkültürlü eğitim, farklı kültürleri tanımaya fırsat veren, kalıplaşmış önyargılardan arındıran, öğrencileri yaşamın çoğulcu yönlerine karşı duyarlı hale getiren ve kültürel çeşitliliğin olumlu, eşit karşılanmasını sağlayan eğitim yaklaşımıdır. Çokkültürlü eğitim, öğrencilerin, farklı kültürlerden olan diğer bireyleri hoş karşılamalarının sağlanması için, öğrenme ortamlarının farklılaştırılması temeline dayanmaktadır. Öğretmenler, öğrencilerinin, kendi kültürleri dışındaki bireylerin değerlerine saygı duymalarını, diğer kültürlerle ilgili ön yargılarını en aza indirgemeyi sağlamalıdır. Aynı zamanda bu tür kültürel farklılıkların insanlar için bir zenginlik kaynağı olduğunun farkına varılabileceği öğrenme ortamları yaratmalıdırlar. Bu araştırmanın amacı, eğitim temalı filmleri çokkültürlü eğitim açısından analiz etmektir. Bu amaçla Milli Eğitim Bakanlığı'nın, 2016-2017 eğitim öğretim yılının yaz tatili için mesleki çalışmalar kapsamında tüm öğretmenlere önerdiği filmler arasından çokkültürlü eğitim ortamını yansıtabilecek 5 film amaçlı örneklem yöntemiyle seçilmiştir. Bu çalışma nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden doküman incelemesi tekniği kullanılarak yapılmıştır. Araştırma verilerinin toplanmasında belgesel tarama yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmacılar tarafından geliştirilen gözlem formları yardımıyla veriler toplanmıştır. Analiz sürecinde öncelikle gözlem formları deşifre edilerek çözümlemeler yapılmıştır. Filmlerde, okulların çokkültürlülük göstergelerini yansıtan noktalar belirlenmiş ve bu göstergeler film kareleri ile filmlerde geçen konuşmalardan doğrudan alıntılar verilerek desteklenmiştir.
