Abstract

The Brassicaceae family is one of the largest Angiosperm families in our country. It has many members grown for medical, economic and food purposes. Some members are used as a living model in genetic studies. It is important to investigate the taxa of such an important family spreading in our country. In this research, the morphological characteristics of fruit and seed structures of the genus Sisymbrium L., which has spread in Turkey. 450 plant samples collected as a result of three years of field studies between 2010-2013 were examined and are presented as a result of the herbarium visitations belonging to nine Sisymbrium species (Sisymbrium polyceratium, S. runcinatum, S. elatum, S. officinale, S. altissimum, S. septulatum, S. orientale, S irio and S. loeselii) are presented. In the study, the presence of the S. confertum Steven ex Turcz genus in Turkey could not be examine because it could not be verifiable. S. malatyanum Mutlu & Karakuş species published in 2015, which is the only endemic species belonging to the genus of our country, could not be included in the study. Fruit and seed surface micromorphologies of nine Sisymbrium species were examined by electron microscopy (SEM) and the micromorphological diagnostic key of the genus was established taking into account the differences and distinctions.
