Abstract

Objective: Determining the infestation rate and population fluctuation of Aulacophora foveicollis (Lucas) (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) in melon plantation areas in Kınık district ofİzmir province.Material and Methods: The main materials of the study consists Cucumis melo L. (Cucurbitaceae) (melon) that is grown in Kınık district of İzmir province and the individuals from all the biological periods of A.foveicollis. The infestation rate studies were carried out in years 2017-2018 on 6 fields in Sucahlı, 4 fields in Yayakent and 5 fields in Poyracık neighborhoods during the seedling, flowering, fruit setting and harvest periods, on 50 plants in each. The countings of population change were carried out weekly in Sucahlı and Poyracık, on chosen 4 fields and 25 plants in each. Results: The infestation rate of A.foveicollis in Kınık district was determined as 100%. It was observed that the population change in two years of study was increased from the May by the planting of seedlings, decreased from the middle of July, increased some more during the harvesting period, decreased quickly after the harvesting which was on September. It was determined that the population increases depending on the increasing of temperature. Conclusion: As the result of study, it was determined that the A.foveicollis was found on every melon field in the study area from April to the end of September and caused economical damages on those fields from the planting of seedlings until the end of harvesting. It was thought that, the results on population fluctuation of the pest obtained from the study are qualified to help melon producers to consider in which months the A. foveicollis is more on fields and the appropriate time periods of pest control.
