Abstract

ABSTRACTAim:The aim of this study was to determine the cervical cancer screening status of women between 40-55 years in the disadvantaged region according to cervical cancer risk factors. Methods: The study was carried out between the dates of 15 November and February 2017 on women aged 40-55 who were registered to a Family Health Center in the disadvantaged region. The universe of the study consists of 1016 women aged 40-55 years, registered in a Family Health Center. It was aimed to reach the whole universe and 667 (66%) of the women were reached. The data were collected by the researcher by the data collection form prepared in accordance with the literature. SPSS 21.0 statistical package program was used to evaluate the data. In descriptive statistics, number, percentage, mean, standard deviation and chi-square values were calculated. Results: It was found that there was a significant relationship between the cervical cancer screening status of the women included in the study and their educational status, number of births and oral contraceptive use (p <0.05). No significant relationship was found between the age of 16 and before the first sexual intercourse, the age of 17 and under the age of first birth and the presence of a cervical cancer history in the family (p> 0.05).Conclusion: It has been determined that the participation rate of women living in the disadvantaged region with risk factors for cervical cancer is not at the desired level. It may be recommended to provide training and increase awareness on cervical cancer and screening in order for women to participate more in screening programs.
