Tarihi-toplumsal varlık alanını tabii alandan bağımsız bir şekilde ele alan İbn Haldun gerek doğuda gerekse batıda pek çok çalışmaya konu edilmiştir. İnceleyeceğimiz bu çalışma da aynı şekilde tarih ve sosyoloji alanında ürettiği fikirleriyle düşünce dünyasında hatırı sayılır bir yer edinen İbn Haldûn’u konu edinmektedir. Rıza Kokrmazgöz’e göre yapılan çalışmaların büyük bir kısmında İbn Haldun’un tarihe ve topluma bakışı ait olduğu İslam geleneğinden soyutlanarak ele alınmıştır. Bu nedenle yazar İbn Haldûn’u genel anlamda klasik metafizik içinde daha özel anlamda ise kelam metafiziği içinde düşünen ve bu minvalde tarihi ve toplumsal varlık alanını çözümleyen bir düşünür olarak yeniden ve en doğru bir şekilde okuma gayesi ile bu çalışmasını kaleme aldığını ifade etmektedir.
