Abstract

In recent years, although cryptocurrencies have not yet been legally widely accepted, transaction volumes have reached significant dimensions. Among the reasons for this increase; Advantages such as high rate of return, elimination of intermediaries, leaving the money control completely to oneself, not being dependent on a central authority, easy transfer, and very low transaction costs are effective. This expansion in the transaction volumes of cryptocurrencies, besides the legal problems, has also brought up the issue of controlling the crypto money in the businesses and the transactions made with these currencies, taxation of the profits, and accounting of crypto assets. In this article; current studies on cryptocurrencies are discussed in order to solve the current need. Regarding the accounting process, cryptocurrencies were handled as cash and cash equivalents, stocks, financial instruments, assets held for sale and intangible assets, and an application proposal was presented. The subject has been examined within the framework of legal regulations and accounting standards.
