Abstract

The phenomenon of migration, which has occurred throughout the history of humanity and is still continuing, is defined as the displacement of people within or outside a country for various reasons. When people migrate, they mainly aim to improve their living conditions—sometimes to achieve better economic conditions, and sometimes to escape from war and conflict. Although economic difficulties and war/conflict situations are associated with migration in the literature, migration movements caused as a result of climate change have been frequently studied by scholars. According to the predictions of the World Bank, by 2050, 216 million people will have to leave their homes due to climate change. In addition, the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) states that 1.2 billion people face the danger of displacement due to ecological threats in the next 30 years. Based on this information, this study deals with global climate change and people who have to relocate due to climate migration and environmental factors. The last Climate Change Conference held in 2021 and possible measures that can prevent climate migration from causing a global crisis were also discussed. In this context, the argument of the study is that there is no global and common solution to control climate migration due to climate change and prevent it before it reaches dangerous levels, and governments act for their national interests. In this context, literature review, one of the qualitative research methods, was employed in the study..
