Abstract

Narcissus has been an important ornamental plant in Western Europe since the late eighteenth century. Phenolic compounds are known compounds with antioxidant properties. Accordingly, anticarcinogenic, antimutagenic and antimicrobial activities also have positive effects on human health. Narcissus is a plant containing phenolic compounds. In this study, phenolic compound, total flavonoid substance and total antioxidant capacity and antimicrobial activity were determined in Narcissus papyraceus. The total amount of phenolic content in Narcissus papyraceus bulbs and its buşb shell was determined as 98 mg GAE/1 gr saple and 584 mg GAE/1 gr sample, respectively, as the Gallic Acid equivalent. The total amount of floovanoid content in Narcissus papyraceus bulbs and its buşb shell was determined as 8.75 mg QUE/1 gr sample and 5.04 mg QUE/1 gr sample, respectively, as Quercetin equivalent. The ethanol extracts of the plants are in the form of bulb (88.96 %)> onion (55.5 %), with DPPH rank bulb shell (88.96 %) remaining at the plant concentration of 30 μg / The remaining DPPH order of the concentration of 30 μg/ml in plant extracts prepared with water is bulb shell (66.1 %) and onion (25.3 %). The DPPH removal activities o water extracts are not as effective as the standard antioxidant BHT. Bulb shell extracts of this plant show more resistance than some antibiotics. In addition, bulb shell extracts show more antimicrobial activity than bulb extracts.
