Abstract

Due to a significant improvement recorded in the position of Turkey within the international tourism industry, there has also been an interest to emphasize the importance of tourism education at the academic level. In this context, particularly over the last two decades, a considerable record has been achieved in terms of the figures of tourism schools at the university level including vocational, undergraduate and graduate degrees. The purposes of this study are two-fold: 1) to evaluate the SWOT analysis of tourism schools in lights of the concluding report of the Search Conference on Academic Tourism Education held in Bodrum, Turkey, 22-25 April 2009; 2) to make various recommendations to better serve for the future of tourism education in Turkey, e.g. quality of human sources and curriculum development.
