Abstract

Objective: Swallowing is a vital function. Disruption of swallowing can lead to malnutrition, growth retardation, lung infections. In this section, it is aimed to examine the characteristics of swallowing disorder rehabilitation home program in Necmettin Erbakan University, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Child Health and Diseases. Material and Method: 18 male patients (mean age 11 ± 3.56 months), 10 men evaluated by Pedi-eat, were included in the study. The patients were evaluated in terms of age, cause, Functional Independence Scale (Wee-FIM), and their functional functional independence was followed in terms of home exercise program. Results: 55.5% of the patients were referred from the pediatric infection service, 16.6% from the pediatric intensive care unit, and 16.6% from the pediatric general service. 33.3% of the children were fed by mouth, 11.1% of the nasal gastric tube and 55.5% of them were percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy method. 45.5% of the cases were able to walk with or without support, 55.5% were using a wheelchair or their advanced mobilization was limited. Motor score averages were calculated as 72 on the Wee-FIM scale of all cases participating in the study. 11.1% of the evaluated patients were diagnosed with Down syndrome, 11.1% were diagnosed with SMA type2, 22.2% cerebral palsy, and 55.5% were undiagnosed developmental disorders. Swallowing disorder was accompanied by gastroesophageal reflux in 7 patients, chewing in 3 patients and drooling in 5 patients. The Pedi-Eat 10 score of the children included in the evaluation was 32.17±15.23 on average and was 25.32±13.13 after the treatment. 10 patients fed percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy were also dependent on the functional independence scale, and no change was made in the diet at the end of the treatment. When the relationship between success in diagnosis and treatment was reviewed, success was higher in patients with genetic diagnosis. Conclusions: In the success of swallowing therapy; We think that the Wee-FIM level of independence, the cause of the disease is effective. Improvement in swallowing disorder requires a versatile effort. It is very important for experts to work in harmony for success.

Özet

Amaç: Yutma hayati önemi olan bir fonksiyondur. Yutma’nın bozulması beslenme yetersizliği, büyüme geriliği, akciğer enfeksiyonlarına yol açabilir. Bu çalışmada, Necmettin Erbakan Üniversitesi, Meram Tıp Fakültesi, Çocuk Sağlığı ve Hastalıkları Anabilim Dalında, yutma bozukluğu rehabilitasyonu ev programı verilen hastaların özelliklerinin değerlendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır.
