İşletme İktisadı Enstitüsü (Graduate School of Business Institute) established to undertake business graduate programs in Turkey in 1954. Today, the Institute, which is affiliated to Istanbul University School of Business continued this program for forty years, which started in 1957, but changing conditions caused the end of this program in the 1990’s. Established with the academic support of Harvard Business School and with the financial support of the Ford Foundation, the Institute has carried out this program mainly depending on the “case method" as the primary method of instruction. It had given numerous graduates with courses covering the whole week intensely, and its "certificate" was distinctive for managers in Turkish business life. Although the Institute continues its business graduate programs today, unfortunately, the structure of the program has remained in the past. Its revitalization will greatly contribute to Turkish business education.

1954 yılında Türkiye’de lisansüstü işletmecilik eğitimi yapmak üzere kurulan İşletme İktisadı Enstitüsü’nün bir akademik yıl süreli “İşletmecilik İhtisas Programı” günümüzde hala izleri yaşayan sıradışı bir eğitim programı idi. Günümüzde İstanbul Üniversitesi İşletme Fakültesine bağlı olan Enstitü, 1957 yılında başlattığı bu programı kırk yıl boyunca devam ettirmiş, ancak değişen şartlar bu programın 1990’ların ikinci yarısında sonlanmasına neden olmuştur. Harvard Business School’un akademik, Ford Vakfının mali desteği ile kurulan Enstitü bu programı esas olarak “vak’a metodu”na bağlı biçimde yürütmüş, tüm haftayı yoğun biçimde kaplayan dersleri ile sayısız mezun vermiş, “sertifika”sı Türk işletmecilik hayatında yöneticiler için ayırt edici nitelik taşımıştır. Enstitü halen işletme yüksek lisans programları ile faaliyetlerini sürdürmesine rağmen, söz konusu programın yapısı maalesef geçmişte kalmıştır. Yeniden canlandırılması, Türk işletmecilik eğitimine büyük katkı olacaktır.
