Abstract

Objective: The aim of the study is to evaluate the physical activity levels and quality of life of students studying at the university and to investigate the relationship between students’ gender, age, body massindex (BMI), choronic diseases, smoking habits and academic achievemen with physical activity level. Metod: 192 individuals were questioned in the study. With the prepared questionnaire, the demographic characteristics of the participants, which department they read, cigarette smoking, known chronic diseases and academic averages were questioned. In order to determine the physical activity level of the participants, “International Physical Activity Questionnaire Long Form (UFAA Long Form - International Physical Activity Questionnaire)” was evaluated with the quality of life SF-36 (Short Form 36; Short Form 36). Mann-Whitney-U Test, One Way Variance Analysis, Kruskal Wallis-H Test were used in the analysis of the data. Results: Physical activity scores of male students were significantly higher than female students for moderate and severe activities (p <0,05). While the energy subtitle of physical activity and quality of life was different (p <0,05), no significant difference was found between other parameters (p> 0,05). While there was a significant difference in the physical role difficulty parameter of quality of life between female and male students (p <0,05), no difference was found among other parameters (p> 0,05). Conclusion: Physical activity level is not at the expected level for university students. Although the lack of physical activity participation does not make any difference in terms of smoking, chronic diseases and anthropological features, it reflects negatively on their quality of life.words.
