Abstract

Obesity is a globally increasing epidemic disorder that threatens mainly the developed countries and the developing countries like Turkey. The contribution of genetic, environmental, neurologic and spiritual factors to the etiology of obesity makes it an extremely difficult to prevent and treat disorder. The presence of variety of socio-cultural dynamics and differences among genders influence weight status around the globe. Despite of the knowledge of contributions of socio-cultural and gender differences to obesity, these two factors and precautions that are needed to be taken do barely mentioned in public speeches. Contrary to this fact, social and cultural factors can change eating and exercising habits and in overall these changes affect women health more then men. There are limited numbers of studies in the nursing literature that examines the effects of obesity on women health and public gender in Turkey. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of obesity on women health and public gender to contribute to the previous studies that examined the effects of obesity on women health and public gender in Turkey. The findings are hope to provide a better understanding of global pandemics and might give a different perspective to nurses and health care providers.
