Abstract

Parameters such as temperature, humidity, pressure and air change in the operating rooms provide comfort for the patient and the surgical team, and are also very important for patient safety and infection. Surgical site infections, which are common among health care-associated infections, causes serious complications. There is a direct correlation between the amount of airborne pathogen particles in the operating room and the risk of developing surgical site infection. Factors such as air quality, particle number and personnel traffic in the room increase the risk of surgical site infection. Air conditioning systems reduce the risk of surgical site infection by preventing direct exposure of airborne pathogenic particles to the sterile field and wound area. For ensuring of the hygienic air environment and air quality in the operating room, taking standard precautions and providing timely controls are important to prevent infections and complications that will develop.
