Abstract

The aim of this research is to get the opinions of the teachers on teaching practice the unit "Phases and Motions of the Moon" through the 6-Sigma method at the 5th grade. This study was carried out using phenemology method within qualitative research approach. The opinions of the 6 science teachers participated in the study were taken using the semi-structured interview form. The data were analyzed by the content and descriptive analysis methods. According to research findings, it was determined that 6-Sigma method is effective in teaching abstract subjects which are difficult to understand, and 6-Sigma method is a suitable method for science lesson, and it can be fruitful for teaching the unit “Phases and Motions of the Moon”. At the end of the research, it was concluded that the students can eliminate learning deficiencies about the subject with the activity prepared related to 6-Sigma method on the phases and motions of the Moon. A lesson plan instruction prepared for the unit "Phases and Motions of the Moon" can be used as a guidance for science teachers in their teching sessions. 6-Sigma method can be used where the students have difficulty in learning abstract and complex subjects.
