Abstract

Problem based learning is an educational method which is promote students to find solution for real-world problems into collaborative groups. The aim of this research is to examine the effect of problem based learning approach on students’ attitudes towards to mathematics lesson in the teaching of “relation-function-process” issue in high school mathematics lesson at 9th grade. The research was carried out at Çınar High School in Diyarbakır in 2006-2007 academic year. The participants of the study were 40 nineth class students. This research is an experimental study, which includes pre-test and post-test with control group. In the study, problem based learning approach was used with the experimental group, whereas traditional teaching approach was used with the control group. “Mathematics Attitude Scale” and “Student Recognition Form” were used as data collection tools. The research data were analyzed and commented with the SPSS package program. Obtained data was evaluated and analyzed by using t-test for independent groups, one-way ANOVA, frequency, mean and percentage. As a result of collected data analyses in the research; it is concluded that in mathematics education, problem based learning approach influenced students by increasing their attitudes levels towards to mathematics lesson.

Özet

Probleme dayalı öğrenme öğrencileri işbirlikli gruplar içinde günlük hayat problemlerine çözüm aramaya teşvik eden eğitimsel metottur. Bu araştırmanın amacı, probleme dayalı öğrenme yaklaşımının ortaöğretim 9. sınıf matematik dersi “bağıntı-fonksiyon-işlem” ünitesinin öğretiminde öğrencilerin matematik dersine yönelik tutumları üzerindeki etkisini incelemektir. Araştırma 2006-2007 eğitim yılında Diyarbakır ili Çınar Lisesi’ne devam eden 40 dokuzuncu sınıf öğrencisi ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırma deneysel bir çalışma olup, araştırmada ön test – son test kontrol gruplu desen kullanılmıştır. Çalışmada, deney grubunda probleme dayalı öğrenme yaklaşımı izlenirken, kontrol grubunda geleneksel öğretim yaklaşımı kullanılmıştır. Veri toplama araçları olarak “Matematik Tutum Ölçeği” ve “Öğrenci Tanıma Formu” kullanılmıştır. Araştırma verileri SPSS paket program kullanılarak analiz edilmiş ve yorumlanmıştır. Elde edilen veriler, bağımsız gruplar için t-testi, tek faktörlü varyans analizi, frekans, ortalama ve yüzde kullanılarak değerlendirilmiştir. Araştırmada elde edilen verilerin analizi sonucunda; matematik eğitiminde probleme dayalı öğrenme yaklaşımının, öğrencilerin matematik dersine yönelik tutum düzeylerini yükselttiği belirlenmiştir.
