Abstract

Throughout history, human beings have been more or less influenced by the tradition of the society in which they live. It can be said that the power of tradition is due to the fact that it is a system created over many years through the approval of a society. One of the most important features of the tradition is that it is the subject of the effort of transferring it to new generations/people by being strictly protected by the society. Likewise, human beings have a tendency to consider themselves responsible for transferring the tradition inherited from their ancestors to the next generations/people. In this context, we can express the tradition system of a society inherited from previous generations/people as the ancestors religion. However, it would not be the right approach to limit the expression of ancestors religion to a meaning area such as tradition patterns inherited from people with blood, lineage, race and similar ties. Because a society can adopt the tradition inherited from its own ancestors, as well as accept the elements in the tradition system of other societies. In this context, the expression of ancestors religion in our study refers to the tradition system inherited from the ancestors of the society affected by oneself, even if they do not have blood, lineage, race or similar ties. As a matter of fact, the fact that the Israelites were influenced by the ancestors religion of the Egyptian society is an example of this. In this manner, our study aims to explain the belief in the ancestors of Egypt and to deal with the nature of the Israelites’ being influenced by the dominant tradition system of the region, with reasons. In addition, this research will provide some important data in terms of showing the dominant power of tradition on people. It should be noted that although this study has a multidisciplinary structure, it is essentially a study of tafsir. The ancestors religion of Egypt and its effect on the Children of Israel, which we aim to clarify, will be discussed with the aim of revealing the nature of the religion that the Pharaoh and his people had seen and learned from their ancestors, as described in the 78th verse of Surah Yunus.
